Just seven months after giving birth to her son, Martia became very sick and was admitted to hospital. After being diagnosed with heart failure, Martia underwent an emergency bypass and eventually received a heart transplant. Further diagnosis confirmed she had Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM).
It's Martia's profound gratitude for the gift of life she received from an organ donor that has given her a newfound appreciation, allowing her to cherish every precious moment with her family and friends.
Now, with every hat she creates, Martia spreads awareness and gives back – turning her second chance into a chance to help others.
Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare form of heart failure that can occur during the last month of pregnancy or within the first five months post-partum.
While PPCM cases are low in Canada, early diagnosis and proper management remain crucial for improving outcomes for women affected by this condition.
Each toque is lovingly handmade by Martia, with a portion of every sale supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
